about

I’m Jason Duffett. I’m a software engineer, infrastructure engineer, engineering manager, manager-of-managers, multi-instrumentalist, father, husband, music fan, and general pain-in-the-ass (in no particular order).

I’ve worked for startups, “Big Tech”, and large professional services firms in Australia, London, and Edinburgh. I maintain and create numerous open source projects to support my professional roles and just because I still enjoy creating software after more than 30 years of hacking.

I’ve played guitar, ukulele, banjo, or drums in different groups, from casual to professional, since my teenage years and you’ll often see me performing in different guises around Edinburgh, especially during the Fringe. I’ve dabbled in home recording for decades, and that’s something else I might end up posting here.

This site is where it all converges. The tech posts are working notes from problems I’ve worked on and ideas I’m still playing with; the music posts include arrangements and recordings I want to keep somewhere other than a hard drive. The misc ones are everything else — beer, food, and other peccadillos of life that I think are worth noting.

I write when I feel like it and there will often be long periods of inactivity as my attention goes elsewhere. In this content/slop-rich world, I doubt anyone will notice.
